WAP Push vulnerability discovered in HTC-devices.
A few months ago, c0rnholio of xda-developers discovered a vulnerability in HTC-devices. A "faulty" registry value opens up your phone to hackers by accepting WAP Push silent sms-messages which enables your phone to download and execute files of the hackers choosing. I have developed a fix that resets these values to Microsofts recommendations. Just copy the file to your device and install it. Alternatively the file can be downloaded directly to your device by navigating to my pda-portal with your phone - pda.eggen.at.

Enable traffic-camera warnings on Garmin GPS. Free!
I spent a few hours when i first bought my Garmin GPS trying to find some free POI's for traffic cameras in Norway. The ones i found were not free. This resulted in a workaround, explained below. This guide is for Norwegian/Swedish traffic cameras only, unless you have TomTom-files for other countries at your disposal.

First you need to obtain updated coordinates of the traffic-cameras. For Norway and Sweden, these can be downloaded here. You need to register an account to download the files.

Secondly, you'll need to convert these files to a format your Garmin GPS understands. POIEdit 2007 is a great application which has a handy batch conversion tool. You can fetch this application here. Scroll down to find the dowloads. Once the program is installed, start it and hit Tools -> Batch conversion. Find the files you want to convert (TomTom Binary) and convert them to Garmin Comma Separated (.csv).

All that remains is to load the new POI-files onto your Garmin. This can be done with this software from Garmin. This step is pretty self-explanatory, but if you need help feel free to drop me an email or a comment below.

Drive responsibly! :)

Find mp3-files with Google!
This is actually old news, but I keep forgetting how to do it. It's a great way to download single songs, but not albums.

Simply search for this in google:
-inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" mp3 "Coldplay"

Replace Coldplay with the artist/song you are looking for. Happy hunting! :)

Guide to give photos a glamour look
I was bored today and decided to play some more with photoshop. To see the difference, I used the same base photo as last time. The guide I used can be found here, although I didn't follow it that much. I'm not so satisfied with the result this time, so I'll keep on looking for a better guide.

Free rental car?
While reading todays news i found a site that lists cars that need to be returned to different destinations in Norway. Right now there are 42 cars that need to be returned to its owners. The service is totally free and sometimes even fuel is included! You can view the list here.

Simple guide to a natural photo touch-up
I was browsing through the daily links at del.icio.us today when i started thinking about photo touch-ups. I did a search and found a great website (good-tutorials.com) with guides for photoshop. After spending a fair few minutes looking at the different methods and guides I decided to try the natural approach with this guide.
Took me about 30 minutes total, here is the result:

OSX Expose in Vista?
Found this neat application doing my daily surfabout. It's still in beta, but fairly stable - for me at least. Great if you have one monitor, not so great if you have two. I'm currently using it on my laptop and it's faster than alt-tab'ing or using the flip-style aero thing if you have more than two windows running. Again - would not recommend this to people running dual monitors.

The application can be found here.

How to remove shortcut arrow in Vista
I recently rearranged the icons on my desktop, and found myself annoyed with the arrows shown in all the shortcuts. Ofcourse, they do serve a purpose - to visualize that it is a shortcut to an executable file and not the file itself. Nonetheless, I wanted to get rid of them. 1 minute of googling later and I found this site: vista4beginners.com.

Before

After

Simply download this file: shortcut.zip and run the "rem_shortcut_arrow.reg"-file to remove the icons. To reverse the removal, run "undo_rem_shortcut_arrow.reg".
